Lilian is located in western Iran, 80 km southeast of Arak. Lilian is mostly populated by Armenians. Here, precisely crafted, heavy oriental carpets are knotted. The wool of these carpets is shiny, relatively soft and full to the touch. The patterns are usually large, sweeping floral palmettes. They are knotted in the Persian knot (which, curiously, is less common in Persian carpets than the Turkish knot). Geographically, the Lilian carpets are counted among the Mahal (Arak) carpets.
