Luribaft

The Ghashghay nomads live mainly in the Shiraz region of Iran and have around 300,000 tribesmen. They belong to the Turkic peoples, probably came from the Caucasus in the 13th and 14th centuries and speak Turkish dialects. The Ghashgai are proud, freedom-loving and hospitable people, they are considered the richest Persian nomads and are of the Shiite faith. Due to transport, assembly and dismantling, the horizontal knotting looms are limited in width. Larger carpets are only knotted by sedentary Ghashgai. The Ghashgai carpets are among the finer and more valuable nomadic carpets.
